Kynda served as testbed and fleet schoolhouse

The Kynda class served as a weapons platform, testbed, training ship, and foundation for the infrastructure behind later Soviet missile cruisers.

Notes

The limited Kynda class was a developmental step as well as a short production run. The ships tested hull engineering, weapons, and sensor systems while training officers and crews to operate a new kind of combatant. Building and supporting them forced the Soviet Navy to develop the industrial and logistical infrastructure needed by later classes. An experimental class can shape institutions and support systems as much as ship design.
