Keeping an obsolete Tiger useful at 33 knots

A final Tiger refit combines 33-knot speed, 16.5-inch long-range firepower, revised secondary armament, and better underwater survivability.

Notes

The last refit asks whether an obsolete Tiger-type battlecruiser can remain useful without pretending it is a modern hull. The design preserves a 33-knot target and adopts 16.5-inch guns intended for long-range fighting, with stated ranges between 35 and 40 kilometres as the choices change. Its secondary battery, turret arrangement, and weight distribution are revised until the refit fits. Weight is also spent on double-hull construction, flood protection, and resistance to torpedo damage. The resulting campaign ship remains obsolete, but a focused mission and selective modernization extend its service value.
