The Kaba class continued Japan's earlier destroyer designs. The Japanese yards that built these ships later produced twelve related Arabe-class destroyers for France. The French regarded them as the most advanced destroyers in their inventory during the First World War. Japan had previously bought French torpedo boats to develop its own technology, so this sale reversed that earlier relationship. It may have been Japan's first sale of its own modern warship design abroad since Perry's intervention, although that priority claim has not been fully checked.
