The KA-252 prototypes led into several experimental and service roles. The KA-252TL supported testing, the unbuilt KA-27D was a patrol project, and the KA-27E handled radiation reconnaissance. The KA-27M improved ASW, while the border-guard KA-27PV carried the Kh-35 low-altitude anti-ship missile. The KA-27PK was an experimental helicopter for attacking small vessels. The KA-27PTS was a target-designation project and the KA-27PM a mine-countermeasures project. The KA-27PS, PSD, and PSM covered baseline, extended-range, and modernized rescue configurations. The KA-27REP electronic-countermeasures project did not proceed.
