K3 armour and speed trade-offs

A K3-inspired design shows how armour thickness, displacement, and a 30-knot requirement pull against one another.

Notes

The proposed British K3 and G3 designs show how quickly a fast capital ship consumes displacement. A heavier belt may improve protection, but it also competes with machinery, range, and the hull needed to sustain high speed. Dropping the imagined K3 from 32 to 30 knots provides room for stronger protection while preserving a battlecruiser-like speed advantage. This trade-off explains why a paper design cannot be reduced to its gun calibre alone.
