A joint F-35B pool sustains two service squadrons

A common British F-35B pool can replace aircraft across 809 Naval Air Squadron and 617 Squadron without reserving separate maintenance fleets for each service.

Notes

A common airframe pool feeds the Fleet Air Arm's 809 Naval Air Squadron and the RAF's 617 Squadron. Because the aircraft share their configuration, a jet entering deep maintenance can be replaced by an available airframe without preserving a separate Navy or RAF identity. Pilots and maintainers also cross service lines, so the squadrons are joint in personnel as well as equipment. Pooling reduces the number of reserve aircraft a small force must hold while keeping both operational units supplied.
