Preserving shipyards and building larger, movable dry docks

The counterfactual combines retained shipyards with oversized permanent docks and sectional docks that can move to undeveloped bases.

Notes

A further proposal would keep Tyne and Clyde shipyards open and avoid covenants that prevent closed yards from returning to shipbuilding. Large new dry docks would allow ships to grow beyond the dimensions of existing capital ships. Suggestions include several 400-metre docks in Britain and docks at least a hundred feet longer than the Admiral class. Sectional floating docks would provide another form of capacity: small sections could move separately and assemble into a large dock. That would bring repair facilities to locations without the infrastructure for a permanent dry dock.
