Rebuilding an ironclad at the Imperial Arsenal

Osmaniye's Imperial Arsenal reconstruction turned an earlier broadside ironclad into a more capable, longer-ranging barbette ship.

Notes

The rebuild moved Osmaniye from an older ironclad generation toward the capabilities of much later designs. The Imperial Arsenal could undertake the work because it had already built large ships of the line. Reconstructing Osmaniye there demonstrates the Ottoman Navy's domestic dockyard capability. New machinery and armament extended the military value of an older hull.
