William Denny and Brothers built Walker at Dumbarton. The company operated in that form from about 1840 to 1963, although earlier Denny businesses make its origins harder to date. Its destroyers are valued here for dependable performance across speed, cost, agility, and general usefulness. Thornycroft and J. Samuel White had more distinctive specialist reputations, while Denny was one of many British yards capable of building an effective destroyer. Part of the Scottish Maritime Museum occupies the former yard site.
