Uganda traded aircraft hangars for electronics and crew space

Uganda's American repair removed obsolete aircraft hangars to make room for radio, radar, and better crew amenities.

Notes

Uganda's wartime repair did more than restore the hull and machinery damaged by the Fritz X. Her two hangars, inherited from the aviation arrangements of the Town-class design lineage, were removed. The recovered volume went to radio and radar equipment as well as crew amenities. The refit exchanged an increasingly obsolete aircraft facility for the electronics and habitability demanded by later-war service.
