Using HMS Renown as a Thunder Child reference

A late-Victorian HMS Renown provides a practical reference for balancing Thunder Child's guns, armour, shallow draft, and speed.

Notes

The 1895 HMS Renown provides the closest historical design cue for the fictional ship. Her ten-inch guns, eight-inch belt, roughly three-inch deck protection, and nineteen-knot speed offer a baseline for a build intended to ram at higher speed. Harvey armour and triple-expansion machinery keep the design within late-Victorian technological limits. The exercise makes the trade-off clear: adding speed and a shallow profile quickly consumes the weight available for armour, machinery, and weapons.
