HMS Delhi received American 5-inch/38 guns and Mark 37 fire control during her anti-aircraft conversion. Some of the equipment had been carefully selected for a US destroyer whose captain then lost it to the cruiser project, and the guns came from allocations for more than one destroyer. The resulting installation impressed the Royal Navy. Further 5-inch/38 guns were unavailable, but the United States agreed to supply more Mark 37 fire-control systems.
