Hiraga's design lineage from Nagato to Number 13

The design is traced from the Queen Elizabeth fast-battleship idea through Japan's Nagato, Amagi, and Kii family and Yuzuru Hiraga's work.

Notes

Number 13 was a logical progression from the Queen Elizabeth fast-battleship idea and Japan's preceding capital ships. The Nagato, Amagi, Kii, and Number 13 family is associated with Yuzuru Hiraga, Japan's leading naval architect of the 1910s and 1920s. How much of Nagato was Hiraga's work remains disputed, while Amagi, Kii, and Number 13 are identified as his designs. Hiraga's later leadership of the engineering school at Tokyo Imperial University places these ships within Japan's professional naval-architecture establishment.
