How Hansa-Brandenburg became a naval aircraft supplier

Castiglioni financed designers and factory expansion to supply dependable aircraft, with German naval and Austro-Hungarian aviation orders supporting Hansa-Brandenburg's growth.

Notes

Financier Camillo Castiglioni invested in skilled designers and dependable products that customers would order again. He helped establish nearly 200 companies, including businesses that contributed to the later BMW, across the industrial economies of Austria, Germany, and Italy. He was willing to fund forceful, self-confident designers as long as their work justified that confidence. Factory expansion made Hansa-Brandenburg Germany's largest aircraft manufacturer by autumn 1915. Its principal customers included the Imperial German Navy and the Austro-Hungarian Aviation Corps, with reconnaissance and strike aircraft supplying less celebrated parts of the air war. The durability of its designs also sustained foreign demand after the war.
