H-42 reaches roughly 90,000 tons and calls for 18.9-inch guns, but those weapons remained paper proposals. The proposed 420 mm gun also seems to have advanced little beyond schematics. Germany did not possess the plant needed to turn those drawings into a mature production programme, and the available armaments capacity had more urgent work. Designing a calibre is separate from building the industrial system that can manufacture, test, and sustain it.

H-42's gun existed ahead of its factory
H-42's proposed 18.9-inch armament illustrates the gap between a schematic weapon and a gun backed by tooling, factories, and production priority.
