Why the Grom-class destroyers needed topweight reductions

The British-built Polish Grom class suited Baltic service but needed visible changes when North Sea and Atlantic stability became more important.

Notes

J. Samuel White at Cowes built the ships around Baltic requirements. Service in the North Sea and Atlantic exposed stability and topweight problems. Their funnels were shortened and heavy spotlights and boat racks were removed to ease the problem. More extensive proposals included removing a gun or rebuilding the bridge, showing how a new operating environment can force alterations to an otherwise capable destroyer.
