Gorgon's combat career ended quickly once the Belgian coast ceased to be an active front. She served temporarily as a tender to the shore establishment Vivid before paying off in August 1919 and entering reserve the following month. Britain offered the ship back to Norway, but the Norwegian government declined to take her. Naval treaty arrangements led to her disarmament in 1922. She remained in existence until sale for scrapping in August 1928. Disposal came only eleven years before a heavily protected coastal-defence ship might again have found wartime employment.
