German turret choices and industrial capacity

Germany's continued reliance on twin turrets exposed limits in what its yards and supporting infrastructure could build, move, and support.

Notes

Germany continued with twin turrets even as Italy was producing triples and German planners understood Britain's larger construction capacity. The suggested explanation is industrial: German yards and infrastructure had to build, move, and support the mountings. Turret layout therefore reflected national production limits as well as design preference. Britain may have been able to adopt triples, and reported design studies included a Queen Elizabeth type with twelve 13.5-inch guns in four triple turrets. That alternative lacked the eventual 15-inch weapon's hitting power, but a wider industrial base kept more design paths open.
