How early gas turbines could reshape an interwar fleet

Pairing early gas turbines with integrated electric propulsion would alter capital ships, carrier rebuilds, destroyers, and nominally slow sloops across the Royal Navy.

Notes

An aside develops into a compact warship-design counterfactual. Early gas turbines become much more consequential when paired with integrated electric propulsion. That combination would change the machinery decisions for Nelson and Rodney, carrier and capital-ship rebuilds, and later destroyer construction. It could also leave a sloop with ordinary diesel generating capacity but enough reserved space to add a gas turbine and achieve destroyer-like speed in wartime.
