Galactica as a carrier built around its air group

Galactica is a true carrier because its Vipers and attack craft supply the ship's principal striking power. Wide side pods contain launch tubes, landing bays, hangars, maintenance spaces, and rapid routes bringing pilots to their aircraft. Laser cannon, shields, medical facilities, and austere accommodation support a crew expected to remain in combat rather than provide diplomatic presence. A metal shield closes over the bridge, protecting a command space that many fictional capital ships leave exposed. The ship's internal organization follows its carrier mission even when individual technologies remain speculative.
