Why G3's paper turret layout might have changed in the yard

An aesthetic objection becomes a caution that an unbuilt design's controversial turret arrangement was not necessarily its final construction form.

Notes

The published G3 drawing need not represent the arrangement a completed ship would have received. There is a strong suspicion that the gun positions, especially the controversial third turret, would have shifted as construction proceeded. The Italian battleship Dante Alighieri provides an example of a warship whose arrangement changed after building began. An unbuilt design's published layout should therefore be treated as provisional rather than as a frozen final configuration.
