The G3 combined heavy 16- or 16.5-inch guns with eight twin six-inch mounts, speed, range, protection, and anti-torpedo systems. Its likely reputation is compared with the way Warrior and Dreadnought were called revolutionary. G3 depended on the concentration of several mature capabilities in one working ship rather than one unprecedented invention. A rival navy would have to find something able both to catch it and survive its firepower. That combination gave the design its deterrent value.
