Furious serves from the Tondern raid to the attack on Tirpitz

Furious links the 1918 Tondern raid by Sopwith Camels with the 1944 Operation Mascot strike on Tirpitz by Fairey Barracudas.

Notes

Furious operated near both the birth and the maturity of carrier aviation. In July 1918 she launched Sopwith Camels for the Tondern raid, an early carrier strike against German Zeppelin facilities. In July 1944 she embarked Fairey Barracudas for Operation Mascot, an attempt to attack the battleship Tirpitz. In this assessment, the much-maligned Barracuda became one of the strongest strike and torpedo aircraft of its period once developed to Royal Navy requirements. The contrast between Camels and Barracudas captures the enormous development in aircraft, weapons, and carrier operations across her service life. Her service directly connects experimental First World War flying-off operations with coordinated Second World War naval air strikes.
