British boats were designed for ruggedness, maneuverability, and weapons rather than pure speed. A compact turbine plant could retain those qualities while matching or exceeding German Schnellboot performance. Annual small-batch production from 1934 or 1935 would turn the boats into a continuing development program rather than a single experiment. Fairmile would probably lead the work because it specialized in boats trusted by the Royal Navy.
