Eskimo loses her bow but keeps fighting

A torpedo tore away Eskimo's bow at Narvik, but the destroyer completed her turn, fired again, and escaped the fjord.

Notes

Eskimo led the push into the narrowing fjord to cover the more conventional destroyers and bring them into effective torpedo range. A torpedo from the sinking Georg Thiele then removed her forward section, including A mount and many of its crew. The ship nevertheless completed her turn, fired a torpedo, and kept B mount in action until its ammunition ran out. Her crew shored up bulkheads, lightened the upper works, and ultimately reversed out of the fjord for the voyage home. The escape depended on the ship's resilience and damage control, while the forward damage and casualties remained severe.
