Eric Brown's Wings of the Luftwaffe draws on his experience flying the aircraft it covers. Wings of the Weird and Wonderful includes unusual aircraft and experimental work such as the flexible-deck Vampire. The landing concept used a soft, rubberized deck in place of a conventional landing on the aircraft's undercarriage. Brown performed these trials himself, putting his test-pilot experience behind the account.
