The G101 boats originated in an Argentine order and entered German service as unusually large torpedo boats, at about 1,700 tons deep loaded. Planned cruising diesels were omitted to save money and time. Their resulting endurance is given as 2,400 nautical miles at 20 knots, with a maximum speed of 33.5 knots. The intended arrangement used gearing and a diesel on each shaft for cruising, while one boiler remained steamed up and the others warm for higher speed. Their high cruising speed therefore came with less endurance than the planned machinery arrangement promised.
