Daring's ancestry in a larger prewar L-class design

Daring's layout is compared with Henderson's larger prewar L-class proposal, with added radar power, accommodation, and 40 mm armament.

Notes

Daring and Forrest Sherman belong to the search for a postwar destroyer design as guided missiles approached service. Daring also retained a close connection to Admiral Henderson's proposed larger L-class design from before the Second World War. The comparison credits Stanley Goodall with adapting that earlier layout for the newer ship. Extra 40 mm armament, more accommodation, and greater electrical power for radar account for some of the changes, along with a modest increase in size. The resemblance shows how a postwar requirement could be met by developing an existing design.
