At roughly 64,000 tons full load and 282 metres long, CVA-01 approached the length of the modern Queen Elizabeth class while having a narrower beam. Six Admiralty boilers and three Parsons turbines were expected to deliver about 135,000 horsepower, 30 knots, and a range near 7,000 nautical miles at 18 knots. Published figures vary, and the precise side and underwater protection remains unspecified. Its planned complement of about 3,250 including the air group was roughly twice the maximum berthing figure cited for Queen Elizabeth. Sea Dart and four Sea Cat systems formed the planned shipboard missile battery, while fighters and escorts would provide wider protection.
