Chapter · 48:28-49:31

Crown Colony guns, torpedoes, aircraft, and wartime crew

The Fiji group carried twelve 6-inch guns while the later Ceylon group carried nine, alongside dual-purpose guns, pom-poms, torpedoes, and initially two Walrus aircraft.

Notes

The Fiji group mounted twelve 6-inch guns in four triple turrets, while the later Ceylon group carried nine in three triples. Both used eight 4-inch guns in twin mountings and two triple 21-inch torpedo installations for Mark IX torpedoes. The Fijis had two quadruple pom-pom mountings, whereas the Ceylons carried three. Fiji and Kenya initially operated two Supermarine Walrus aircraft, but aircraft facilities were removed from most of the class by 1944. Wartime additions could raise a peacetime complement of about 730 toward roughly one thousand, putting further pressure on accommodation in an already compact hull.
