About 150 Buffaloes formed much of the Commonwealth fighter strength in Burma, Malaya, and Singapore. They served in five squadrons: two Royal Australian Air Force, two Royal Air Force, and one Royal New Zealand Air Force. Many pilots entered combat with too little experience or training on the type, yet the force produced about four aces and claimed roughly eighty victories. Against those claims, the loss breakdown gives probably sixty Buffaloes shot down in combat, about forty destroyed on the ground, and another twenty lost in accidents. Those categories account for roughly 120 lost aircraft. The last Buffalo left Singapore on 10 February as the surviving force withdrew toward India or the Dutch East Indies.
