A counterfactual aircraft-and-engine factory complex in Ceylon could serve much of the Indian Ocean from a relatively defensible location. The plants would build naval fighters and strike aircraft instead of depending entirely on supply from Britain. Refineries and engine production would make the complex more self-sustaining. Long-range bombers or maritime-patrol aircraft could then use engines already being produced for the naval types.

An aviation industrial base in Ceylon
Aircraft, engine, and refinery capacity in Ceylon would give Britain a defensible production centre able to support naval aviation across the Indian Ocean.
