Why Carl Gustav Fleischer was sidelined

Carl Gustav Fleischer's removal from command of the Free Norwegian forces shows political caution sidelining an officer regarded as too militant toward Germany.

Notes

Fleischer is a counterexample to claims that Norway lacked officers willing to fight. The government regarded his militancy as politically inconvenient and replaced him with a colonel expected to be more conciliatory toward Germany. That attempt to avoid antagonizing Germany came while Norway was already resisting occupation. His later suicide is linked to the dishonor he felt after being removed.
