Why Canada can build more Type 26 frigates than Britain

Canada's Type 26 fleet represents most of its high-end surface combatants, while Britain divides its requirement among Type 26, Type 31, and Type 45 classes.

Notes

A straight comparison of Type 26 hull counts misses the fleets around them. For Canada, the class is effectively the principal surface-combatant program. The Royal Navy spreads its force across Type 26 frigates, Type 31 frigates, and Type 45 destroyers, with Type 32 also under discussion. Britain can therefore order fewer Type 26s while still maintaining a broader mix of specialized surface combatants, although the preference expressed here is for twelve.
