Once too many decisions change, the fleet becomes a wargaming problem. Figures from Z51 and other diesel projects provide starting assumptions for a Scharnhorst-sized capital ship and carrier. The same process can then be applied to smaller vessels in the fleet. In Alex Clarke's account of games played with friends, even one task group breaking into the North Atlantic disrupted operations until the British side located and dealt with it. That experience illustrates the modelled problem; it does not validate every performance assumption or predict a historical outcome.

German diesel projects provide assumptions for a wargame that tests how a long-range task group would affect the North Atlantic.
