A 13.5-inch Dreadnought is a plausible alternative within the gun-development path considered here. If the Lord Nelson type had continued into another class, the larger calibre might have appeared before an all-big-gun design. Dreadnought could then have inherited that armament. Existing work on 13.5-inch weapons makes the actual selection of 12-inch guns an interesting point of comparison, although the detailed gun marks are recalled tentatively.
