Designing the Bristol light cruiser to fill a fleet gap

The stream closes with a new 9,000-ton light cruiser built around six-inch guns, torpedoes, armor, and the realities of remaining yard capacity.

Notes

The Bristol is designed because the campaign's large battle fleet has an acknowledged shortage of light cruisers. The 9,000-ton hull receives six-inch guns, torpedoes, selected machinery, and as much belt and deck protection as it permits. Pitch, roll, fore-and-aft balance, and an armament heavier than strictly necessary remain compromises in the finished design. Roughly 90,000 tons of spare yard capacity allows ten ships to be ordered. The operational fleet gap is addressed through linked naval-architecture and industrial decisions.
