Why Britain did not send a battleship to Korea

Carrier and destroyer guns supplied useful bombardment without requiring Britain to reactivate a battleship.

Question

Why did Britain not deploy a battleship to Korea?

Short answer

Unicorn and Daring-class destroyers could provide the required bombardment without the burden of a battleship.

Notes

Britain did not need a battleship to provide every form of naval gunfire during the Korean War. HMS Unicorn could contribute with her 4-inch battery while supporting carrier operations. Daring-class destroyers also carried out bombardment work. Those ships offered fire support from forces already useful in theatre, avoiding the personnel and operating burden of a retained battleship. Shore bombardment requirements can be distributed across smaller vessels when the target and mission do not demand capital-ship guns.
