The integration risk in battlefield hot rods

Combining an airframe from one design lineage with equipment from another can create hidden integration and safety problems despite an attractive specification.

Notes

A "battlefield hot rod" combines an airframe from one design lineage with equipment from another. Adding Western technology to a MiG-29 is the example. The resulting aircraft can be interesting, but its safety depends on who performs the integration. Mixing capable components is therefore insufficient by itself to establish that the converted aircraft will be safe.
