Barbettes, new engines, and sustained steaming

The reconstruction replaced Osmaniye's machinery and concentrated its main armament in fore-and-aft barbettes, prioritising useful endurance over peak speed.

Notes

Six coal-fired Scotch marine boilers and two triple-expansion engines gave Osmaniye a sustained speed of 10 knots, slower than her original theoretical maximum but maintainable for longer. Her main armament was reorganised around two 9.4-inch, or 240 mm, Krupp guns in individual barbettes fore and aft. Six 105 mm Krupp guns in upper-deck sponsons and eight 150 mm Krupp guns along the broadside supplemented them. Two 47 mm quick-firing guns were retained from the 1884 fitting, while the Nordenfelt armament increased from two guns to five. The overhaul made an older hull more useful by improving sustained performance and reorganising its armament.
