Why Australia would still favor an Invincible-type carrier

After the Invincible sale collapsed, an Australian replacement would still favor a small Sea Harrier carrier over a crew-heavy American amphibious ship.

Question

What carrier would a united Oceania pursue after the Invincible deal was cancelled?

Short answer

It would probably retain the Invincible concept and join the Sea Harrier program rather than adopt a much larger American amphibious carrier.

Notes

The Invincible class remained the least expensive practical route to a fixed-wing Australian naval aviation capability. Losing the specific British sale would not erase the attraction of the design concept or the Sea Harrier program. An American LHA alternative would impose much greater crewing and operating demands. A locally ordered small carrier following the Invincible pattern is therefore more plausible than adopting a much larger American amphibious ship.
