Building the Ardent class across British yards

The class was distributed across royal and commercial yards, with Buckler's Hard building both Agamemnon and Indefatigable while other yards received one ship each.

Notes

The Ardent-class programme was distributed across Hull, Chatham, Buckler's Hard, Blackwall, Northam, and Bristol. Agamemnon and Indefatigable both came from the Adams yard at Buckler's Hard, while the remaining contracts were spread one ship to a yard. The Royal Navy used a geographically broad shipbuilding base to turn one successful design into a class built over many years. Several establishments therefore had to reproduce Slade's design successfully instead of leaving the whole programme to one yard.
