They were broadly similar, but the Albacore's theoretically better engine was less reliable than the Swordfish's Pegasus.

The Albacore was broadly similar to the Swordfish and added an enclosed canopy, but it was built around the wrong engine choice. Its powerplant promised better performance on paper. In service it proved less reliable than the Swordfish's Pegasus, undermining the intended step forward. An apparently improved component therefore made the replacement less dependable in the role that mattered.
