Battle damage and heat cripple Arkansas

Both sides take heavy casualties, while funnel damage slows Arkansas and drives her internal temperature to roughly 49-54°C.

Notes

Carondelet ran aground after the exchange with about thirty-five casualties, and some of the Union vessels' damage came from friendly fire. Tyler's pilot house was hit and both pilots familiar with the Yazoo River were wounded, reducing the squadron's local navigation expertise. Arkansas had twenty-five crew killed or wounded, while damage to her funnels cut her speed to about three miles per hour even with the current assisting her. Temperatures in her machinery and casemate spaces reached roughly 120-130°F, or 49-54°C. Propulsion damage, poor ventilation, and heat continued to erode combat effectiveness after the gunfire ended.
