Shipyards and armor plate set the hard limit

A yard-by-yard comparison shows why Germany cannot simply order enough dreadnoughts to match British construction.

Notes

Britain and Germany both possess major capital-ship yards, but sustained output depends on the industrial systems behind them. Britain has more yards, greater armor-plate capacity, and more competition within its naval industrial base. Germany can raise output, although each additional hull must pass through a narrower system. The comparison turns on the throughput of armor, machinery, labor, and slips required for repeated dreadnought construction.
