Yamato fits the doctrine but arrives too late for 1939

Yamato's speed and heavy guns suit a concentrated strike-and-withdrawal role, but the class was unavailable and already consuming scarce capacity.

Notes

The Yamato class matched Japan's preference for large ships and heavy guns, though none was ready for a February 1939 war. Their speed and 18-inch armament could eventually support a rapid attack on a battle group followed by withdrawal. That operational promise explains why the class fit decisive-battle thinking and interception-attrition tactics. The immediate reality was an industrial burden that offered no combat power at the start of the counterfactual conflict.
