The Wyoming class carried twelve 12-inch guns in six twin turrets, with two forward and four aft. Its strongest firing arrangement appeared once the ship brought a broadside to bear, so the design effectively dragged much of its firepower into battle. The aft concentration also made a Wyoming dangerous to pursue in a stern chase. A top speed of roughly 20.5 knots limited its ability to impose that geometry on a faster opponent. The layout reveals the engagements its designers expected.
