Swift and Viking as a challenge to Type 83 gun armament

The unusual six-inch guns on Swift and Viking provide historical precedent for the argument that a future Type 83 destroyer should carry a much larger gun.

Notes

Swift was not the only British destroyer fitted with a six-inch weapon: the 1907 Tribal-class HMS Viking received one as well. The pair remain unique in Royal Navy destroyer history for guns of that size. The comparison supports a six-, eight-, or even 9.2-inch weapon for a future Type 83 destroyer rather than treating a smaller calibre as inevitable. This is a procurement argument drawn from historical precedent, not a confirmed Type 83 design decision.
