A friendly Japan releases Indian Ocean shipping

Removing Japanese attacks in the Indian Ocean would preserve merchant capacity and ease the wartime movement of food and supplies.

Notes

A Japan allied with Britain would leave British and Commonwealth shipping free from the Japanese attacks envisaged in the historical Indian Ocean campaign. Malaya and French Indochina would also avoid Japanese invasion in this scenario. More merchant shipping would survive and remain available to carry supplies around India. That additional capacity could make food movement easier and change the conditions associated with the Bengal famine.
