Would Queen Mary and Tiger become cheaper if the empire built roughly ten Lion-class ships?
Short answerThey probably would not be built at all unless a much larger threat justified continuing battlecruiser expansion.
NotesTen Lions would nearly equal the combined German and Japanese battlecruiser total and supply more than a full British squadron. At that scale the Royal Navy would already possess the fast scouting and heavy-cruiser force that Queen Mary and Tiger were meant to develop. Without a matching threat increase, later money would more likely return to the battle fleet than fund additional evolutionary battlecruisers. If an international response did justify Queen Mary and Tiger, parallel construction across multiple yards would still limit any unit-cost reduction.
